As screenwriters, we’re always looking for tools and ways to take our writing to the next level. Enter ChatGPT!
ChatGPT is a language model developed by OpenAI that uses machine learning to generate human-like text. It has been trained on a vast amount of data, including movie scripts, so it’s really well-suited for screenwriters.
One of the great things about ChatGPT is that it can assist with virtually any aspect of screenwriting, from coming up with ideas for new stories to helping you flesh out characters and plot points. It even knows Blake Snyder’s Beat Sheet! All you do is type in a question or command, and ChatGPT will generate suggestions and ideas for you to consider. You don’t even have to say “please”!
Examples
Let’s say you’re having trouble coming up with a compelling protagonist for your latest project. Simply type something like: “I need a protagonist for my sci-fi action script,” and ChatGPT will generate a list of character ideas for you to choose from.
Or perhaps you have a great concept for a screenplay, but you’re not sure how to structure it. ChatGPT has you covered there as well! Just type in something like, “Take the following logline and create a Blake Snyder Beat Sheet: [then copy and paste your logline here].” ChatGPT will spit out those 15 beats before you can pick your jaw up off the floor.
ChatGPT also remembers previous things discussed in your current chat session. So you could say, “Add more fight sequences,” and poof, it will rewrite your beats in seconds. SECONDS! (Just remember to copy and paste any good responses you get to a word processer. While ChatGPT remembers everything during a session, if you come back tomorrow or leave your computer for a bit, your screen may refresh, and ChatGPT won’t have any idea what you previously talked about. You’ll be starting from scratch.) [Editor’s note: ChatGPT now records all your chats, so you don’t need to worry about them being banished to the Phantom Zone… unless you want them to be.]
Don’t even have a logline? Just type in what you do have and ask ChatGPT to create one for you. This is legit artificial intelligence, ladies and gentlemen. The possibilities are endless.
Bottom line is it’s a terrific tool for any screenwriter looking to take their writing to the next level, get over writer’s block, brainstorm, etc. It’s really easy, and FREE, to use!

I do see that and 100% agree with you. AI isn’t just coming for my job but ALL our jobs. The Universal Basic Income discussions really need to ramp up and people need to make peace with this inevitable future reality.
However, there will be a window of a few years where AI can be used as a tool to help us with our jobs versus replace us. Might as well take advantage of it while that window exists. There will also be a pushback on paying for movies written exclusively by AI, so screenwriting jobs will still exist, even though they’ll mostly be in a supportive capacity.

Be aware also that according to current precedent, AI generated content cannot be copyrighted. Anything you write based on the AI content still can be protected of course, but the AI content itself – or anything with only minimal effort added to it, probably can not.
